Courtyard Time
Courtyard time was one of my favorite parts of the day. Every night after we showered and ate dinner, the people of the community would come to the Harmony House and spend time with us. The first night was a welcome party, full of dancing and singing. The second night was men's night. All the men of Harmons played dominos with the boys from Mizzou. Wednesday was movie night. We watched a movie about soccer and the kids loved it! Women's night was Thursday. We brought down beads to make necklaces and bracelets with the women and girls. It was a fun opportunity to talk to females of the community about the differences and similarities in our lives. Our final night was called the "sendoff." Hundreds of people came to say goodbye to us. It was another night full of dancing and singing. There was one moment when we were all jumping up and down and screaming to Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone" and I remember thinking that I have never been filled with more joy. Everyone in the room was so happy and content. It was an amazing, yet bittersweet, night.
